Facts

In a response to David Lammy claiming the Northern Ireland Protocol Bill breached ‘international law’, Truss asserted that the Northern Ireland Protocol Bill is legal in international law. This is disputed by Irish and EU officials.

The President of Sinn Fein has stated the bill ‘discards international law at a whim’ and the Vice President of the European Commission claims the bill has no ‘legal nor political justification’

The EU has launched legal action against the UK for breaching international law.

Verdict

Truss’ assertion that the Northern Ireland Protocol Bill does not breach international law is disputed by Irish and EU officials, who say the bill disregards international law and have launched legal action to settle the issue.

We approached Liz Truss' office and the FCDO to give her a chance to comment, but received no response.
