There have been many instances of Boris Johnson engaging in gesture politics. For example, the Independent pointed out in February 2022 that an RAF aircraft was flown 330 miles for a photoshoot with the Prime Minister. 

Verdict

Boris Johnson’s claim that he doesn’t “believe in gestures” was false. For a politician who says he doesn’t believe in gestures, Boris Johnson is remarkably keen on them.

We approached Mr Johnson’s office, the Cabinet Office and the No 10 Press Office to give them a chance to comment but received no response.
