Kemi Badenoch was born in 1980. There was no minimum wage until after the 1998 National Minimum Wage Act. In 1999 the first rate was set at £3.60 an hour, but this was for adults aged over 22.
There had been Wages Councils which regulate pay in select industries but these were abolished in 1993, after which only the Agricultural Wages Board and Scottish and Northern Irish equivalents existed.
Verdict
There was no minimum wage when Kemi Badenoch was 16, so she could not have been earning a minimum wage.
