Facts

On 19th May 2020, Therese Coffey, Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, told BBC breakfast that: “there have only been a handful of days when more than 100,000 people have gone for that test”.

At the time of Coffey’s remark, the UK had not reached that target on a single day, government figures showed.

Verdict

Under an appearance of honesty, Therese Coffey managed to plant a misleading suggestion that testing had reached a level it had never achieved.

We contacted Therese Coffey’s office but received no response.
