After long resistance, the government performed a U-turn on the footballer Marcus Rashford’s campaign to supply free school meal vouchers over the summer holiday period. Boris Johnson claimed that he had become aware of the high-profile campaign only on the day of the U-turn.

Yet the day before, Johnson’s official spokesperson had told the Huffington Post that Johnson would reply to Rashford.
