In 2012 Liz Truss was one of five MPs who wrote that the country “rewards laziness.” “Too many people in Britain prefer a lie-in to hard work,” they wrote, arguing that "British workers are among the worst idlers in the world.” 

In August 2022 a recording was leaked to the Guardian of Truss as Chief Secretary to the Treasury (a role she held until 2019) expressing the same sentiment when she said  that “There’s a fundamental issue of British working culture.” 

Verdict

Liz Truss claimed that she would never let anyone talk Britain down, but she had done just that with regard to British workers.  

We emailed Liz Truss’ office offering her the chance to respond. The email was received, but no reply.
