It has been a “longstanding policy since 2009” to boycott the Muslim Council of Britain.

Prime Minister’s Official Spokesperson

Facts

The Prime Minister’s Official Spokesperson claimed that it had been a “longstanding policy since 2009” to boycott the Muslim Council of Britain. Whilst there was a brief suspension under the Labour Party, this was lifted at the end of the Labour government and John Denham engaged with the MCB when he was in charge of CLG in 2010.

Between 2010 and 2015, the Muslim Council of Britain met Communities Minister, Stephen Williams in September 2014, Energy Secretary Ed Davey in 2014 and Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg in September 2015.

Verdict

This claim on behalf of the Prime Minister was only partly true.  Ministers did hold meetings with the MCB from 2010 to 2015.
