At PMQ’s, Keir Starmer said: "The Prime Minister is so weak that without Labour votes last night, vital public health measures wouldn't have got through.”

This came after 369 MPs voted in favour of introducing new measures to curb the spread of coronavirus. 

But Mr Johnson said the claim was “not true”.

A total of 99 Conservative MPs voted against the government, making it the biggest rebellion of Johnson’s premiership. Given that Johnson’s parliamentary majority was just 79, he was forced to rely on Labour votes for the measure to pass. Only 22 Labour MPs voted against the measures - the rest of them supported them. 

Verdict 

Johnson’s claim that his government did not rely on Labour votes to pass the new covid-19 measures was false. Without Labour votes, the measures would not have passed. His false claim remains on the Hansard record in defiance of the Ministerial Code.

We approached Mr Johnson’s office, the Cabinet Office and the No 10 Press Office to give them a chance to comment, but no reply.
