Facts

On 6 June 2022, Boris Johnson won a vote of confidence with the support of 211 (59%) Conservative MPs with 148 (41%) voting against him. In a comment to Sky News, Jacob Rees-Mogg described this result saying “It was a good victory for the Prime Minister, he won comfortably“.

Four years ago Theresa May won a vote of confidence with 200 (63%) votes in her favour and 117 (37%) votes against her. At the time, Jacob Rees-Mogg described Theresa May's 117 votes of no confidence “a very bad result”.

Verdict

To quote from a Washington Post study of political falsehood in the Trump era: “ A growingbody of research documents how fully Americans appear to hold biased positions about basic political facts. But scholars also debate whether partisans actually believe the misinformation and how many are knowingly giving the wrong answer to support their partisan team (a process called expressive responding).”

We approached Jacob Rees-Mogg's office to give him a chance to comment, but received no response.
