“Our MPs are just refusing time and again to deliver Brexit”

Boris Johnson, speech launching Conservative Party election campaign, Downing Street

6 November 2019

Facts

Johnson has made similar claims before. On 3 November he told Sky News: “Parliament refused finally to give approval for us to come out on October 31 which was a great disappointment.”

Parliament voted to approve the second reading of the Withdrawal Agreement Bill. It rejected the government’s programme motion on the grounds that parliament would only have three days to debate the bill. It was the prime minister who took the decision to pause and then abandon the bill.

Verdict

The prime minister’s statement was groundless.
