“Remember it was only a few years ago when people were saying that solar power would never work in cloudy old Britain and that wind turbines would not pull the skin off a rice pudding”
Boris Johnson, Tory conference speech
Johnson failed to mention that the person who had said “wind turbines would not pull the skin off a rice pudding” was in fact himself in 2013.
Only a tiny percentage of those listening to Johnson would have known that the prime minister was referring to a remark he had made. Instead, he told them that unnamed third parties had argued that wind power would never work. The great majority of those listening to his speech were left with a false impression of the truth.
