Rishi Sunak told the British public at a coronavirus press briefing that “we’re doing absolutely everything we can and straining everything we can to get them the equipment that they need”.

However, Sunak’s claim was undermined the very next day in an extraordinary Telegraph report claiming millions of pieces of PPE were being shipped from Britain to Europe despite NHS shortages. 

The UK firms told the Telegraph they had "no choice" but to keep selling the lifesaving gear abroad after offers of help had been repeatedly ignored by the British Government.

Verdict

This is another example of a tired figure of speech claiming the government is doing “everything we can” which has been proved false again and again.
