Boris Johnson promised to host ‘the UK Government’s First Ever International LGBT Conference’ ahead of the 2019 general election. This pledge was listed as a promise (“We Will [Host] the UK Government’s First Ever International LGBT Conference”) in the Conservative Party manifesto. Details were formally announced by Equalities Minister Liz Truss in May 2021. Pink News revealed that the conference had been cancelled after Boris Johnson caused upset by going back on a pledge to ban trans conversion therapy.
