Facts

Boris Johnson was correctly praising the courage of Sky TV reporters after they were ambushed in Ukraine when he said "The courage of these journalists, putting themselves in terrifying and dangerous situations, is astonishing to watch. They’re risking their lives to ensure that the truth is told. Free press will not be intimidated or cowed by barbaric and indiscriminate acts of violence."

Yet Johnson tolerated an environment where Russian oligarchs could sue British journalists in London, while he and his ministers seek to intimidate Channel 4 News and the BBC, while (as this website has documented) taking advantage of parliamentary privilege to insult and smear British reporters

Verdict

Double standards. As this website repeatedly shows, the Johnson government devotes time and resources to attacking and undermining British press and media.

We approached Mr Johnson’s office, the Cabinet Office and the No 10 Press Office to give him a chance to comment, but received no response.
