Braverman was speaking after the High Court ruled that the policy is lawful after challenges were brought against the Ruanda proposals. 

As Huffington Post pointed out: “But a YouGov survey released today showed that only 10% of Britons agreed that sending people who cross the channel in boats to Rwanda was the best way to address the issue.

“The most popular alternative, with the backing of 39%, was for the government to make it easier for people to apply for asylum in Britain from overseas so they did not need to attempt the channel crossing in the first place.”

Verdict

Suella Braverman’s claim that “the overwhelming majority of the British people want” the Ruanda partnership to go ahead was false, as the You Gov survey proved. The Home Secretary was misleading MPs. Since she has not corrected the Hansard record she is in breach of the Ministerial Code.

We emailed Suella Braverman’s office and the Home Office offering them the chance to respond. The email was received by both, but no reply.
