“The Prime Minister is a man of honour and integrity”

Michael Ellis, Paymaster General, House of Commons

9 December 2021

Facts

Speaking in the House of Commons, Michael Ellis, Paymaster General said: “I also know the Prime Minister and I have confidence in the integrity of the Prime Minister. I have known the Prime Minister for many years. The Prime Minister is a man of honour and integrity.”

Michael Ellis was given the unenviable task of announcing the terms of reference for the Cabinet Secretary’s investigation into allegations made of “a gathering at No. 10 Downing Street on 27 November 2020, a gathering at the Department for Education on 10 December 2020 and allegations made of a gathering at No. 10 Downing Street on 18 December 2020.”

Under pressure from opposition MPs he stated “I also know the Prime Minister and I have confidence in the integrity of the Prime Minister. I have known the Prime Minister for many years. The Prime Minister is a man of honour and integrity.”

Verdict

This website has documented in painstaking detail that Boris Johnson is a habitual fabricator, liar and cheat. Ellis was therefore misleading MPs when he described Boris Johnson as a ‘man of honour and integrity.’ We made repeated attempts to contact Mr Ellis to give him a chance to justify his statement. He did not respond.

His misleading statement remains on the Hansard record in defiance of the Ministerial Code. In telling contrast, when the Labour MP Dawn Butler accurately described Boris Johnson as a liar in the Commons chamber she was in breach of Commons rules and ordered to leave the chamber
