“The privileges committee inquiry has been shown to be what it is: a kangaroo court. They are breaching English common law by refusing to take intent into account – in other words that someone deliberately breached the rules.”

Michael Fabricant MP, Daily Mail

Facts

Here is a list of misleading statements made by Boris Johnson as Prime Minister in the Commons. They are uncorrected on the official record in defiance of the Ministerial Code: https://boris-johnson-lies.com/johnson-in-parliament

Verdict

Michael Fabricant MP provided no evidence to substantiate his claim that the House of Commons Committee on Standards and Privileges conflicted with English common law. We agree with his argument that it is difficult to prove an intent to deceive, which is why this website is careful about its use of the word liar. It is possible to prove, however, that Johnson is a liar. Take for instance his claim that “more people in work than there were before the pandemic.”

UKSA chair Sir David Norgrove previously told the PM “it is wrong to claim that there are now more people in work than before the pandemic began”, but he continued making the claim despite knowing it was false.

We emailed Mr Fabricant’s office offering him the chance to respond. The email was received, but no reply.
