After referring to the leader of the Scottish Conservatives as a “lightweight figure”, Mr Rees-Mogg was challenged by fellow MP Kevin Brennan to name the leader of the Welsh Conservatives. 

Mr Rees-Mogg responded: “My honourable friend the Secretary of State for Wales is called Simon Hart.” 

The Secretary of State for Wales is Simon Hart. The leader of the Welsh Conservatives is Andrew RT Davies.

Verdict

Rees-Mogg was answering a question that he has not been asked. 

We approached Mr Rees-Mogg’s office and the Cabinet Office for comment, but received no reply.
