“This is just nonsense, honestly.”

Spokesperson for Home Secretary Suella Braverman, The Daily Mirror

4 April 2023

Facts

The Daily Mirror obtained information that Suella Braverman had been caught speeding. When a Mirror journalist rang a spokesperson for Ms Braverman, the aide denied the allegations on four occasions, ultimately suggesting that these claims were “nonsense”.

The Mirror then released a transcript of the conversation.

On 20 May 2023, six weeks later, Braverman admitted that she had been caught speeding in June 2022 as was claimed. In June 2022 she was Attorney General for England and Wales.

Verdict

Suella Braverman’s spokesperson was misleading the Daily Mirror.

We emailed Suella Braverman’s parliamentary office offering her the chance to respond. The email was received, but no reply.
