Matt Hancock told the House of Commons: “What we have done to handle this coronavirus pandemic has been unprecedented in modern times. Throughout, we have been straight with people and this House about the challenges that we as a nation face together.”

This website contains numerous instances of Boris Johnson and members of his government twisting the facts and making false claims about the handling of the Coronavirus pandemic. 

Verdict

Hancock’s boast to MPs that “we have been straight with people and this House about the challenges that we as a nation face together” was contemptuous of the facts and hopelessly misleading. This false statement remains on the House of Commons record, in defiance of the Ministerial Code. 

When we asked Matt Hancock to respond to the claims laid out in this website, a spokesperson said: “This list is false, wildly inaccurate, and in some cases possibly even defamatory. For example claiming that some of Matt's claims in the Commons were in defiance of the ministerial code, when they were in fact accurate. The priority throughout this unprecedented pandemic has been saving lives.”
