“We are getting on ... with the things we said we would do to repair the country we inherited from Labour.”

James Cleverly, BBC Breakfast

3 October 2020

Facts

Foreign Office minister James Cleverly appeared on BBC Breakfast on 3 October 2020. He was presented with poor approval ratings for the party, with 57 percent of the population believing that Johnson was doing badly, compared with just 26 percent in April.  Cleverly responded

“We are getting on...with the things we said we would do to repair the country we inherited from Labour.”

The Tories had been in power for 10 years when Cleverly made his remark.

Verdict

To blame Gordon Brown’s government, which was voted out of office in 2010, for the current state of Britain is beyond misleading and, if allowed to pass, would destroy responsibility and accountability in government.
