In a Conservative party email, sent to members, Priti Patel claimed that the Tory party is “the party of law and order”. This was just a matter of days after one ex-Tory MP quit as a result of a sex offence conviction, an hour after a Tory MP was suspended for watching porn at work and within weeks of 100 fixed penalty notices being given out to Downing Street officials over lockdown-breaching parties. 

Verdict

The Conservative  Home Secretary was misreading Tory activists. Under Boris Johnson the Tories have become the party of criminality, rule-breaking and lies.

Boris Johnson had issued an identical - and equally misleading - Tweet six months earlier.

We approached Priti Patel's office to give her a chance to comment, but received no response.
