After Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak were pinged by NHS Track and Trace, Johnson said: “We did look briefly at the idea of us taking part in the pilot”. This was in reference to a pilot scheme allowing people who have been selected to take part in the study to avoid self-isolation. Participants of the scheme were selected at random.
The day before Johnson said this, Downing Street released a press release saying that both Johnson and Sunak would be “participating in the daily contact testing pilot to allow them to continue to work from Downing Street. They will be conducting only essential government business during this period."
Rather than only having looked at the idea briefly, Downing Street considered the idea long and hard enough to publish a press release on the subject. Johnson’s claim was therefore misleading. This is yet another example of Rishi Sunak finding himself embroiled in Boris Johnson’s habitual deceit.
