“We have got a deal, oven-ready, by which we can leave the EU in a few weeks. It’s a great deal for this country. It delivers everything that I wanted when I campaigned for Brexit”
Boris Johnson, speech launching Conservative Party election campaign, Downing Street
Johnson has previously campaigned against many aspects of his deal. He opposed the divorce bill which has not changed from Theresa May’s deal. He vowed never to sign off a customs border in the Irish Sea, which he has done. He pledged to release the UK from EU regulations but his political declaration suggests they may be a requirement of any free trade deal.
The prime minister’s statement was a lie.
