In a conservative party keynote speech on October 6th 2021, Boris Johnson said: “It is thanks to that vaccine roll-out that we now have the most open economy and the fastest growth in the G7”.

UK Gross Domestic Product grew 5.5% between April and June 2021 compared with the first three months of the year, more than any other member of the G7. Comparing GDP between April and June 2021 with the last three months of 2019 before the pandemic struck  Britain came joint-fifth best in the G7, equal with Germany with only Italy doing worse. Verdict

Johnson was only able to make the claim that Britain had the fastest growth in the G7 by being selective with his figures. Had he chosen different figures, the story would have been different.
