According to YouGov, a majority of people have considered Boris Johnson to be untrustworthy throughout most of his premiership, with over 70% believing so in April 2022. 

In 2014, 48% of British people believed that politicians are “merely out for themselves”. A report from December showed that that number has risen to nearly two-thirds of voters.

Verdict

Michael Gove’s claim that Boris Johnson restored trust in democracy is bizarre and wholly misleading. 

We emailed Mr Gove’s office offering him the chance to respond. The email was received, but no reply.
