“[Boris Johnson was] our most successful Prime Minister in a generation”

Nadine Dorries MP, BBC Newsnight

1 September 2022

Facts

Under Boris Johnson’s premiership, inflation hit a 40-year high and rose to the highest among the leading G7 countries.

Operating costs for businesses have increased and a rise in food and fuel prices has created a cost-of-living crisis.

GDP has fallen and the government’s fiscal watchdog, the Office for Budget Responsibility, said that public debt is on “an unsustainable path and projected to surpass 250% of GDP over the long term”.

Boris Johnson himself was the only Prime Minister in British history to have left office in personal disgrace, following a series of scandals

Verdict

Contrary to what Nadine Dorries says, Johnson has not been the most successful Prime Minister in a generation.

We emailed Ms Dorries’ office offering her the chance to respond. The email was received, but no reply.
