The only statement Truss made on the day of Johnson’s resignation was a tweet after the resignation saying he had ‘made the right decision’. 

Vicky Ford, a Conservative MP supporting Truss, stated on Politics Live that she knew Truss was aligned in view with those who wanted Johnson to resign. This is at odds with Truss’ tweet on the 7th of July, in which she said Johnson made the right decision in going. Truss claimed she did not resign herself as she was too ‘loyal’.

Verdict

Truss’s claim that she wanted Johnson to carry on is demonstrably false. On the day of the Prime Minister’s resignation she said that Johnson made “the right decision.”

We emailed Liz Truss’ office offering her the chance to respond. The email was received, but no reply.
