In his first speech as Prime Minister, Sunak promised a compassionate government. 

Five hours later, he reinstated Suella Braverman as Home Secretary. At the Conservative Party Conference on the 5th October she told a Spectator event that, "my position personally is that ultimately we do need to leave the European Convention on Human Rights." At the same conference, Braverman spoke out about cutting welfare spending, despite rising inflation. The home secretary claimed “far too many people” are “fit to work” but choose to claim welfare instead.Alongside Braverman, Sunak also reinstated Gavin Williamson to his cabinet. He did this, having been told the day before (24 October), that a complaint had been lodged against Williamson regarding allegations of bullying and intimidation of parliamentary colleagues.

Verdict 

It is difficult to reconcile Sunak’s stated objective of bringing "compassion" to his government with his decision to appoint Suella Braverman and Gavin Williamson as cabinet ministers.
