"This is not the moment to go weak on net-zero, it’s the moment to double-down on green technology and the moment to double-down on wind power and clean, green solutions"

Boris Johnson MP, Cop27 Climate Summit

7 November 2022

Facts

Referencing the global energy crisis, the former Prime Minister Boris Johnson, told world leaders that now is “not the moment to go weak on net-zero” at the Cop27 climate summit in Egypt.

Boris Johnson's final acts as PM included:

  1. Backing major new oil and gas drill sites.

  2. Rowing back from onshore wind.

  3. Refusing to oppose the first new coal mine in decades.

  4. Scrapping re-wilding projects.

Verdict

Johnson was in no position to urge world leaders not "to go weak" on net-zero. This was hypocrisy on the most urgent issue of our time.

We emailed Boris Johnson’s office offering him the chance to respond. The email was received, but no reply.
